Every seven years Council must consider and adopt new By-laws which includes a long and comprehensive consultative process. In 2010 Kangaroo island Council commissioned Norman Waterhouse to prepare the by-laws for Council and requested they ensure all the processes be adhered to in accordance with the legislation.
At the 12 February 2010 Council meeting, Council resolved to seek public comment on the draft By-laws and received the comments at the 14 May 2010. To view the comments received and the Councils response please click on the following link - Content Summary 14 May 2010(18 kb)
As Council requested further changes be made to the draft By-laws, Council was required to seek further comment. Council received the comments at the 13 August 2010 Council meeting. At the 13 August 2010 Council adopted the new By-laws. Along with the By-laws Council also made a number of resolutions which clarify the operation of the By-laws. These resolutions are attached to the relevant By-laws.
