Media Release: Waste Water Lagoons at Brownlow

There has been some concern from the community that there appears to have been outflow of treated effluent from Council’s waste water lagoons located at Brownlow. The State Environment Protection Authority raised the matter with Council two weeks ago and Council acted immediately having our EHO on site within 30 minutes (Friday 13th October 2017). There was also an inspection conducted by Council’s Manager Development & Environmental Services, Director Council Services and our CWMS Operator (Monday 15th October 2017). The EPA were notified and a report submitted. Preliminary investigation leads us to believe that minor outflow occurred due to wind-blown wave action, though the apparent level of inundation of samphire wetland areas adjacent to the lagoons is primarily due to tidal influence and that there are no environmental issues. Council is awaiting final confirmation from the EPA which we are expecting within the next week.
