Commuity Forum: Towards 100% Renewable Energy for Kangaroo Island

Around 40 Community members attended a Forum held at the Aurora Ozone Hotel 22 September 2016.

Kangaroo Island has a rare opportunity to choose between two contrasting paths to meet its future energy needs – replacing the existing undersea electricity cable from mainland SA, or developing local electricity supply based on an affordable, diverse and reliable combination of the Island’s excellent renewable energy resources.

The Forum heard about a new study that finds the Island can be powered by up to 100 per cent renewable energy at a comparable cost to replacing the existing undersea electrical cable.  The study was supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), RenewablesSA (SA Department of Premier and Cabinet) and the Kangaroo Island Council, and completed by the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology Sydney with expert technical review by AECOM.

Please find below copies of the presentations given at the Forum, and for further information please contact Andrew Boardman, Chief Executive Officer, 0448 868 088
